This Saturday, I volunteered at the Color Scobstacle.
“Color Scobstacle?! What’s that?”
The Color Scobstacle was an event put together by the Comm 448 class for the United Way of Lackawanna and Wayne Counties. The class’s goal was to raise awareness about the United Way in a younger demographic and to spark interest in a new age group of volunteers.
The Color Scobstacle is an original event that combines a color run, and scavenger hunt, and an obstacle course. Obstacles were spread all throughout Marywood’s beautiful South Campus. Runners had to complete tasks such as a low ropes course, wheelchair races, and a slip-and-slide. When they finished the obstacle, they were splashed with bright, colorful powder. The first few teams to complete all obstacles and cross the finish line won prizes.
As a volunteer, I helped a volunteer from United Neighborhood Centers to set up “Minute to Win it” style activities. One cool task runners had to complete was to stack Chapsticks three-high using only chopsticks.
The Scobstacle was a lot of fun. It was nice to see all the Communication Arts majors come out and support this class’s project.
Until next week, enjoy the spring weather that’s finally here!
