MMG hosts Town Halls

BY Anne Zukowski (’18)

The Marywood Media Group (MMG) started a new program that invites professionals to discuss certain social issues affecting the the U.S.  “Forming a More Perfect Union” is a Town Hall-style show on TV-Marywood and is sponsored by the Pacers for Justice and Peace.

Members of the Marywood community participated as both members of the live audience and as panelists fielding questions from the audience. Marywood community members who could not attend had the opportunity to tweet @TVMarywood a question for the participating panelists using the hashtag #TVMTownHall.

The first Town Hall topic was “Immigrants & Refugees” which was broadcast on February 23. This Town Hall had questions from the students, faculty, and staff from Marywood for each of the professional panelists to discuss and answer.

The Professional Panelists for the “Immigrants & Refugees” Town Hall were Dr. Adam Shprintzen, Sr. Mary Ann Zimmer, and Mark Ngongo.

The second Town Hall, “Gender Equality” was broadcast on March 30.

MMG has been working with TV-Marywood in coordinating new programming. The town halls are a good example of how the different majors in Comm Arts collaborate to produce televised discussions of topics that help form a more perfect union for both the whole Marywood community and viewers.
