Name: Elizabeth Carlson ’17
Major: Graphic Design with a minor in Advertising
I chose Marywood because of the extensive Visual Arts and Communication Arts programs that are offered here. When I first came into Marywood, I knew that I had an idea of minoring in something other than art. And I knew that, eventually, I would like to work in an ad agency when I graduate. When I saw that I could major in the Visual Arts and minor in Advertising, I knew this was a good choice. The athletic program at Marywood was another reason why I chose Marywood. I am a member of the women’s soccer team. Our support of each other as a team is very strong on an off the field. Marywood University also has a safe environment for all students.
I am minoring in Comm Arts because I felt that this would be a good way for me to get a better understanding of the behind-the-scenes side of an ad agency.
When I’m not in class, I’m outside playing for the women’s soccer team, hanging out with friends, usually running around from meeting to meeting for different clubs that I am involved in!
My favorite class is my Marketing Principles for Communication that I am currently taking this semester. The reason that I enjoy this class is that I see a lot of things coming together that I have learned in the past from my Comm Arts classes as well as what I am learning in my graphic design classes.
The coolest thing I’ve done so far was being asked to write for the Frame Your Future blog! I have previously blogged before, and I am very excited to get started in blogging for the Communication Arts department.
When I graduate, I want to move back home ,which is close to New York City, and either become an employee of an advertising company or a design studio. Hopefully, I can work my way up to be an art director of a company. I hope eventually to get my master’s degree as well.
I’d recommend the Comm Arts program at Marywood because of the facilities, the faculty and the students that make up the department. I am only a minor in the Communication Arts department, but I have become so involved. The department offers so many opportunities for students that can help them prepare for after graduation.
