Back at it

There’s something that I truly love doing in the Marywood Comm Arts department that I haven’t gotten much of a chance to talk about yet.

But now I finally get to talk about being a DJ at VMFM 91.7. That’s Marywood’s own alternative radio station, if you haven’t heard. And you should hear, because it’s actually one of the best college radio stations in the nation, if you ask MTV-U.

Music is undeniably my biggest passion, and I’m excited to be able to have the opportunity to talk (read as: rant) about my favorite and least favorite artists with as wide of an audience as radio reaches.

There’s something just so personal about radio. I get to say what’s on my mind directly to my audience, with virtually no filter (besides what’s allowable from the FCC), and the audience is able to respond to me via the request line and shape the show into what they want to hear.

With the construction of the Learning Commons and the moving of the radio studio from one building to another, it’s been quite a while since I’ve had the opportunity to talk on air.

But finally on Thursday, after almost eight months, I finally got back into the booth.

Dr. Wotanis snapped this shot of me in the radio station during my first on-air session of the semester.

It’s an experience unlike any other. I was so excited, that I’m actually writing this post from within the booth. Now let me get back to playing the best alternative music.
